According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a yearly flu vaccine. Ample supplies of influenza vaccine are now available. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop an immune response. Get vaccinated now so that you will be protected when flu season begins. In the United States, influenza season usually begins in October and can last until May.”

The 2011–2012 seasonal influenza vaccine will contain the following three vaccine viruses:

  • An A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus;
  • An A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus; and
  • A B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus.

The 2011–2012 influenza vaccine can protect you from getting sick from these three viruses, or it can make your illness milder if you get a related but different influenza virus strain.
